Dr. Janelle McQueen Hamilton – known as Dr. Jayy in our practice – completed her orthodontic residency in 2020.
Growing up, she spent a lot of time at our office and fell in love with the field. When she was in fifth grade, she wrote a paper explaining how she wanted to be an orthodontist and a WNBA player! In high school, she started dental assisting, working on family and friends, under her mother’s – Dr. Jana McQueen’s – guidance.
Dr. McQueen Hamilton attended Texas Southern University, in Houston, where she played D1 basketball and her undergraduate studies. Following in her mother’s path, she then attended Meharry Medical College, graduating with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS). She completed her orthodontic specialty training at Howard University, receiving her Certificate in Orthodontics.
As an orthodontist, Dr. McQueen Hamilton appreciates the opportunity to meet and spend time with people from diverse backgrounds. For her, building connections while improving smiles – and knowing treatment can transform a person’s life – is personally and professionally fulfilling!

Dental school and her orthodontic residency gave Dr. McQueen Hamilton a solid understanding of oral healthcare and the mechanics of tooth movement. At the same time, she knows her specialty is constantly changing and is committed to staying current on the latest developments.
Dr. McQueen Hamilton regularly attends meetings, lectures, and seminars, and studies the latest orthodontic and oral health journals. In learning about new technologies, as well as changes in diagnostics, treatment processes, and materials, she looks to advancements that improve the patient experience and results.
By incorporating her knowledge and proven options into the practice, she ensures patients receive the best modern orthodontics offers.

Beyond the Practice
Dr. McQueen Hamilton grew up in Bloomfield Hills and now resides in the Metro Detroit area with her husband Tim and dog Blu. If she’s not at the office and creating smiles, she is probably enjoying time with her family, or playing basketball. She also likes hiking and craft projects, along with reading.
Dr. Jayy also enjoys participating in many community and volunteer activities through Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Alpha Rho Omega Chapter, too.
